The Scholars of the Madhhab
Biographies of the Scholars of the Hanafi Madhhab
After the era of imam Abu Haneefah his Companions, the madhhab was preserved, refined, and transmitted by great jurists who codified its principles and clarified its rulings. These scholars ensured that the madhhab remained consistent while also addressing new issues [النوازل] that arose in their times.
Among them were scholars whose works became foundational references in the madhhab, relied upon for understanding the positions of the madhhab and their evidences. It is upon the works of these scholars that scholars of later generations wrote a great deal such as commentaries, their notes upon specific books, and explanations. These scholars played a crucial role in organizing and clarifying the relied-upon positions of the school.
Our methodology in presenting these scholars is to divide them according to the years of the Hijrah in which they were born. This will, in sha Allaah, help to contextualize each scholar's contribution to the madhhab, and how scholars of the later generations built the madhhab and maintained its consistency.
